| Description: | The first movement of Guitar Pastime Suite – a suite in four movements featuring two guitarists – this piece starts with muted horns over a muted rhythm section. Saxes and Flügelhorns then take the main theme, whereafter comes a stop time interlude. After the interlude comes a pickup for the first guitar solo for three choruses, with backgrounds subsequently coming in behind. That first guitar solo ends in a variation of the intro, that leads to a pickup for the second guitar solo. Also for three choruses and with backgrounds coming in underways. The last solo ends in a wind chorus that builds to a shout, whereafter both guitars take on a repetition of the stop-time interlude, and finally the main theme again. The piece ends with a variation of the intro that ends in cadenza-like solo fills for both guitars, before the horns end the piece in a statement leading in to part two of the suite. Trumpets alternate on Flügelhorns. Notated key C. |
